Skunks!

Picture
If you've never smelled the stench of a skunk you should thank Allah (God)! Skunks are interesting, unique animals. They are native to North America and South America. Skunks often appear black with white stripes. However, they may also have brown or beige fur with either stripes or spots. Scientists categorize skunks in the family of animals called Mephitidae, which means means 'stink'. Skunks are best known for their ability to produce a liquid with a very bad smell. This liquid is produced in scent glands beneath their tails. Skunks spray this foul liquid as a weapon when they feel threatened. The horrible smell is difficult to wash away. Skunks are  prone to carry diseases such as rabies, so it is wise to avoid them.

Skunks are usually solitary (live alone) except when they are mating. In cold climates, skunks may sleep together in a den to keep each other warm. They are found in the wild, although some people remove their scent glands and keep them as pets. Each buck (male) usually mates with several does (females). Each doe usually gives birth to two-ten (2-10) kits (babies). The kits are born with their eyes closed. It takes about three weeks for them to open their eyes. The kits will stay with their mother until they reach maturity, which takes approximately one (1) year.

Skunks are used for their fur, essence, oil, and as pets for the devil. Skunk fur has been used for coats, hats, blankets, and more. Their essence is used by hunters to disguise their (the hunter's) scent and to lure animals. Skunk oil is used by some people who believe it has healing qualities.

Can you think of a few good metaphors for the Black Woman?

Can you think of a few good metaphors for the devil?

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad Says:

"A little skunk just came about here the other day, six days ago, smelling up the community. And you ran away from your own, thinking that he is the boss. He's not the boss, not in nothing but what you smell of him. Now, he can be that boss. I don't want to be the boss of a skunk smell. I certainly will get out of the way of him, until I can find something to get him out of the way."
Theology of Time October 29, 1972
